With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, many pet lovers we know are making last minute decisions on what toy to get their cat or dog to celebrate the day.
It is hard to know exactly what toy your dog or cat will like or even play with. Over time, you begin to figure out what works and what doesn’t. Of course, that’s not until you’ve spent time and money hunting for the perfect ones only to discover they barely rate a passing glance.
Here are a few tips to point you in the right direction:
With 30+ years as pet sitters covering the Richmond area, one thing we know for sure — both dogs and cats are much happier when the play activity involves the human(s) in the room. Definitely take that into consideration when selecting a new favorite toy.
Also, buy toys that are appropriate for the dog’s size and breed and cat’s age and activity level. A pug won’t appreciate your giving them something shaped like a football because their squished little snout makes it impossible to play fetch. An old sock filled with catnip will make the most discriminating cat very happy!
