Would it surprise you to learn that in 2015, it’s projected that US pet parents will spend a record amount on our pets — $60.5 billion!
And now that it’s getting down to the wire for Christmas gift shopping, we thought you could use some ideas for last minute gifts for dogs, cats and those who love them. Here are some of our favorites:
Monthly Subscription Box Services
This is definitely a gift that keeps on giving. If you’re not familiar with the concept, you purchase for your dog(s) or give a gift to someone with a dog a box of dog goodies, delivered to your doorstep every month for the duration of your subscription (1, 3 and 12-months are standard).
The most popular monthly subscription box service for dogs is BarkBox. Little dogs, medium-sized dogs, big dogs — they’ve got you covered. It’s a trend that shows no signs of fading in popularity – and the dogs and cats we know who’ve been on the receiving end give Bark Box a big 2 paws up!
This close to Christmas, it might be too late to get the first box under the tree, but that doesn’t really matter. Whenever the BarkBox arrives, your dog will be super excited.
The proof is in the pudding!
A couple things to note:
10% of the proceeds BarkBox receives is donated directly to rescues.
Use Google to search for a discount code that can save you a bit on your order.
It’s harder to find the cat equivalent of BarkBox, but Meowbox is one to check out. And we liked this slightly oddball idea for women who are crazy about cats – Cat Lady Box. Their mission: “To redefine how the world thinks of cat ladies. It’s a good kind of crazy.”
Gift Certificates and Gift Cards
This might be the most perfect last minute gift idea for pet owners because you can usually print something that’s ordered online. We found lots of inspired ideas right here in Richmond, so you’re also supporting local businesses.
Mobile Pet Spa – We wrote all about mobile pet grooming in a previous blog post, but you should use Google to search for one that serves your area.
Self-Service Dog Wash – If your dog lover enjoys giving the bath, but not the mess and clean up afterward, try out one of the Richmond area’s self-service dog wash-a-terias. A few of our favorites:
Alpha Dog Club – This swimming and fitness facility for dogs has the only indoor, heated, saline swimming pool in central Virginia available to dogs for recreation, fitness, pre- and post-rehab and weight management. What a great gift idea!
A Gift Card to a Dog-Friendly Restaurant (RVA Dog Blog has a good list of dog-friendly restaurants in the Richmond, VA area)
Dog Obedience Training and/or Agility Training
