Richmond is fortunate to have one of the best events that highlights pets and owners. If you have never been to the Easter on Parade celebration, be sure to add it to your Easter activities. It is one that you and your pet can join together.
The event is held on Easter Sunday between 1-5 pm on beautiful Monument Avenue between Allen and Davis. If you are motivated, there is a prize for best pet bonnet and best people bonnet.
I have taken my dogs in years past and they love the excitement of all the people, other animals, the music and “strutting their stuff.” I dressed my dogs up in sailor suit for the male and sailor dress for the female and cute little hats.
If your dogs are anything like mine, hats do not stay on very long! Mine are small dogs and love to bark, so as we walked along in the parade, their biggest thrill was to bark at all the large dogs standing around.
Often, large dogs don’t know quite what to do with a small dog. Is it a toy? A puppy? What is it? You can see the perplexed expressions on their faces. Priceless.
And the little dogs just love to intimidate the big ones and there is no better place to do it than Easter on Parade in Richmond.
One suggestion: Bring some water for your dog(s). Usually there are water stations along the parade, but every dog in the world is drinking out of it and you may not want your pet to “share” germs.
Plan to have a great time, enjoy all the costumes and meet people who love to talk about their pets! If you do go and dress up your pet, please be sure to post it onto Pet Pleasers Facebook page or email it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll post it for you.
Have fun with your pets!
